The goal of this website is to provide information that educates and empowers people, makes connections to foster solidarity, and offers ideas for actions to help bring about positive change on human rights in its broadest definition.  We consider human rights to include the right to live and work in a safe and healthy environment, the right to a fair wage, education, clean & safe housing, adequate food, health care, personal freedoms, a voice in government and freedom from harassment, injustices, and prejudicial treatment.  United Nations agreements provide far more detail on human rights (http://www.un.org/rights) as does the US Bill of Rights.  But even countries that sign the agreements often do not equally protect the rights of all people. We hope this website will help serve as a resource for everyone who is raising their voice, through words or actions, on behalf of human rights.

If there is no struggle there is no progress.  Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, want crops without plowing the ground.  They want rain without thunder and lightning.  They want the ocean without the awful roar of it's many waters.  This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.  Power concedes nothing without a demand.  It never did and never will.  -- Fredrick Douglass, U.S. Abolitionist
